The surprise U.S. victory over England in 1950 proved that Americans could also play the beautiful game.

TR’s zeal for athletics helped lead to the emergence of modern sports in America including interscholastic competition, the NCAA, the World Series, and the First Olympics in the U.S.

THE FOUNDER, BELIEVING HIS RACE A FAILURE, TOOK HIS OWN LIFE. BUT HIS CONTEST SURVIVED HIM, ENDURING SEVERAL BRUSHES WITH EXTINCTION TO BECOME AMERICA’S LONGEST-RUNNING SPORTS TRADITION. IT TURNS 125 THIS SPRING.
