African American Museum In Philadelphia

African American Museum In Philadelphia

The first institution built by a major U.S. city to house and interpret the life and work of African Americans, the Museum allows visitors to experience the richness of African American culture.

The African American Museum in Philadelphia celebrates the rich black culture whose roots in the city date back centuries. Its four exhibit rooms recount the story that began in the colonial period when the abolition movement first gained momentum, and which continued into the 19th century with an unprecedented ban on racial discrimination. Through its artifact collection and educational programs, the museum conveys the area's unique and diverse history, as well as an appreciation for the culture which continues to thrive.
