At 66, Olmsted began designing a landscape garden surrounding the Biltmore Estate, a 120,000-acre English Manor-style property owned by George Vanderbilt in Asheville, North Carolina. Unlike many projects Olmsted had worked on, the designs were privately funded entirely by Vanderbilt himself. National Park Service
