Bill White

Bill White is currently chairman of Houston Banking and senior advisor for Lazard, a firm advising corporate executives, boards, and governments throughout the world.

Mr. White served as mayor of Houston from 2003 to 2009 and deputy secretary of energy during the Clinton administration. As mayor of Houston, White received the prestigious John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Award for his leadership of relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina and Governing magazine's Governing Official of the Year award in 2007.

He has been a successful CEO, has served on the boards of numerous corporations, and has practiced and taught law. White ran for governor in 2010 against Rick Perry, receiving more votes than any Democratic candidate in the history of Texas.

In his book, America’s Fiscal Constitution, White looked at the history of Federal debt and blasted politicians of both parties for their lack of fiscal discipline. He framed the country’s increase in debt spending since 2001 as reckless and unlike anything in its history.

She is also the author of America’s Vietnam War: A Narrative History for young adults.

Blight, David W.

David W. Blight is the Class of 1954 Professor of American History and Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance & Abolition at Yale University. Recently, Blight has written A Slave No More: Two Men Who Escaped to Freedom, Including Their Narratives of Emancipation, and Race and Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory, which won the Bancroft Prize, the Abraham Lincoln Prize, and the Frederick Douglass Prize.

Brinkley, Douglas

Douglas Brinkley, a distinguished professor of history at Rice University and Contributing Editor of American Heritage, has written more than 20 books, most recently The Wilderness Warrior: Theodore Roosevelt and the Crusade for America (Harper 2009) and The Reagan Diaries (HarperCollins 2007). Brinkley earned his B.A from Ohio State University University in 1982, and his Ph.D. from Georgetown University in 1989.
